Dead Letters started in the Fall of 2008 from the fallout of Tallahasse, FL band, Bombardiers, guitarist Burgess, lead guitarist de la Cruz, and drummer Littlefield. The three spent months tossing around hooks and grooves, meshing seemingly diverse styles into something that can be almost adequately described as nineties-alternative-meets-2000′s-indie-rock. The band’s influences include such diverse groups as The Pixies, Wilco, Sonic Youth, The Strokes, The Gin Blossoms, Pavement, Fugazi, Bruce Springsteen, and Warren Zevon.
In February of 2009, the group found its low end in bassist Tim Linafelt, who had previously shared the stage with Burgess in such ill-fated acts as punk rockers The Go-Bots and 50′s sockhop revivalists Jonny Rockit and the Blastoffs. The group began playing shows in April of 2009 at The Engine Room and has enjoyed a fine mix between performing live and woodshedding new material.
Dead Letters hopes to begin recording their first batch of studio gems in the Fall of 2009. Stay tuned for more, as the group’s epic quest is nowhere near complete.
